Pearl Jam’s Pearl Jam
January 3, 2007 |
It took all about thirty seconds for its power to hit me. Pearl Jam - The new album by the kings of grunge Pearl Jam is straight up, in your face Rock. So full of veracity that it puts a giant smile on your eardrums. Its as if all by themselves they have reinvented the genre and brought the guitar back into focus where it really deserves to be. There are a few songs that stand out on this album, I happen to fall for with its full sonic presence it filled my living room with glory. The band has reached a point in both their careers and their ability that verges on perfection. Pearl Jam has been noted as one of the finest live acts in rock because of the sheer energy they extrude. They put forth a series of sonic assaults backed with enough energy to power a small country. Its this untappable energy that they were somehow able to channel into the microphones and lay down in the studio. The album is born from anger, from the same place where their classics Ten and Versus derived their un earthly spirit from. Its this power that gives us as fans a boost. Eddie Vedder doesn’t just sing, he doesn’t scream he gives his entire soul in each note. The utter pain and anger he must feel is relayed to the world through his vocals and we (I) couldn’t be happier about it.
Perhaps the best aspects of Pearl Jam is the intense playing by Mike McReady and Stone Gossard are so interlaced with each other that they are hard to pick out - even for a guitar player. Their playing is perfect, its so intensely on that they may go down in history as the perfect guitar duo.
The bottom line is that this album is fantastic. It brings me hope that rock is alive, that talent is still important and if you are a fan of the energy, the vigor that is rock I suggest you pluck down $15 and add this album to your collection. NOW!
