Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club BandI put on Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band today for the first time in many years. As I listened to the tunes I was struck by how amazing this album must have sounded to the ears of youth 40 years ago. It was so different yet so familiar. The complexities and novelties that made up these songs is amazing to my ears. Amazing because I cannot remember the last time I was so thoroughly entertained and surprised by an album. The Beatles were many things, but I think they were creative geniuses first and foremost. The color and complexities that make up She’s Coming Home for instance have no modern equal.

There is some great music coming out today but when I listen to Sgt. Peppers I cant help but wonder. Where are our Beatles? Is is even possible for a group to produce such remarkable and timeless work anymore? Are we so completely overwhelmed with options that we are unable to hear what may be our Beatles from the mass of music that comes our way each day?

I hope not but I am waiting for something or someone to completely blow my mind with something NEW as Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band must have some 40 years ago.
